Monica Osterbauer, 98, formerly of Willmar, died Thursday, April 18th at CentraCare Rice Hospital in Willmar. Her Mass of Christian Burial is 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 30th at Church of St Mary (713 12th St SW, Willmar, MN 56201) in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm, Monday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to her service. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Murdock. Monica Osterbauer was born February 16, 1926, to Henry and Mary (Foley) Walsh in Swift County. She was baptized and later confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Murdock. Monica attended school in Murdock where she graduated in 1944. She continued her education at Litchfield Teachers College. On September 6, 1947, Monica was united in marriage to Veldin M. Osterbauer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Murdock. To this union eight children were born: Steven, Patricia, Barbara, Max, Nora, William, Alice, Joseph. They made their home on the farm south of Kerkhoven, where Monica enjoyed raising their children and being a homemaker. After Veldin passed in 1982, Monica continued to live on the farm for seven years before moving into Willmar where she continued to live until her passing. Monica was active at the church and enjoyed attending the church Bazaar and also Bible study. She also enjoyed volunteering at the nursing home, Rice Memorial Hospital, Kandi Cupboard Co-op, Youth for Christ, YMCA and the Senior Center. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Monica was a woman of prayer with a deep abiding faith and would want all to know that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.
Monica is survived by her children: Patricia (Douglas) Wood of Minneapolis, Barbara Johnson of Willmar, Nora (Dale) Haglund of Brooten, William (Karen) Osterbauer of Kerkhoven, and Alice (Steven) Commerford of Alexandria; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and step-mother, Nora (Shekleton) Walsh; sons: Steven, Max, and Joseph; and siblings: Ann Scepaniak, Walter Walsh, Clarence Walsh, Henry Walsh, Mary Fennell, and Jerome Walsh.
